Our Managing Partner Steve Rastin is a proud member of a group called ‘Guys That Give’. This group strives to make a positive effect within their community. Members donate 4 times per year to non-profits, local charities and various organizations that serve the Barrie area. The members nominate a charity or organization at their meetings and then vote on which they would like to donate to.
Helmets on Kids is a safety initiative which aims to put helmets on kids, teaching them about bicycle safety, and how to properly wear a helmet. The program was started by the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) back in 2002. Since then, the program has presented over 40,000 helmets to children in need. In addition to giving out free helmets, the program also focuses on educating kids and their parents on how to properly wear a helmet to prevent serious injury.
Rastin Law began its involvement with this program in 2011 for the Simcoe County region and has been donating over 500 helmets, each year since. Our Helmets on Kids initiative holds events at various elementary schools each year, at which, a representative from our legal team will give a talk about the dangers of not wearing a helmet and not wearing helmet properly, which lead to injury. We also have a community police officer give a presentation on how to properly wear a helmet using a 2-V-1 method. A community nurse will then showcase what happens to the human brain when you fall and hit your head while riding a bike. It is a serious message done in a fun and interactive way.
In 2016, our law firm was presented with the City of Barrie ‘Active Transportation Barrie Certificate of Recognition’ for this program and we continue to support the community through this fantastic safety awareness project.
Our team at Rastin Law Trial Lawyers is excited to share The Supporting the Community Scholarship! We started this scholarship to allow students to share their ideas on how to improve their community, and what steps they would take to accomplish this goal. We feel it is important to support the youth in our community who are working hard towards improving their communities, and this scholarship will allow us to show our gratitude toward these important individuals.
