In his hundreds of medical malpractice cases, Richard has achieved significant settlements, some exceeding $10 million, though he cautions that past results are not necessarily indicative of future outcomes.
Richard is a proud member of The Holland Group. Led by former Associate Chief Justice of Ontario Coulter Osborne, it promotes reforms in medical malpractice cases, aiming to increase access to justice while bringing about timely and equitable resolutions. He is also a member of a bench and bar committee created by the Ontario Court of Justice, studying reforms to improve how justice in the province is meted out.
Richard’s other accomplishments include being a past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and a past member of the Judicial Advisory Committee on Judicial Appointments (GTA). This distinguished group was charged with evaluating candidates for the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) and Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB), Richard was awarded a Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) in Civil Litigation by Osgoode Hall Law School. He is a member of the Advocates’ Society, the Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association, the Ontario Bar Association and the American Association of Justice.
